The Metis Lighthouse Preservation Project aims to restore and preserve the historic Pointe Mitis Lighthouse.  The municipality of Métis-sur-Mer acquired the site in 2016 and in 2018 gave a 15-year lease to a local not-for-profit citizen group (ARPP - Association des Résidents de la Pointe du Phare de Métis-sur-Mer) to operate the site for the public good. The ARPP has moved forward with further repairs and restorations in collaboration with the municipality and Heritage Lower Saint Lawrence (HLSL), a regional heritage organization.  However, after years of disuse, much work is required to restore this symbol of the greater Mitis area to its former glory.   ARPP is leading efforts to seek funding from government agencies, foundations and private individuals to refurbish the lighthouse tower and associated buildings.  Financial and civic support is needed to move the project forward.
